Glutathione S transferases (GSTs) are a family of enzymes that play an important role in detoxification by catalyzing the conjugation of many hdyrophobic and electrophilic compounds with reduced glutathione. The amino acid sequence GST is highly conserved in most organisms, including mammals. GST is a widely used fusion partner, since it provides both an easily detectable Tag and a simple purification process of interest.
